GREEN HYDROGEN ENERGY PRODUCTION
Beyond the Grid and Into the Fuel Tank
The path to truly renewable energy has to include renewable fuels. Although we strive to electrify the energy system through renewables, we can’t electrify everything: many modes of heavy transport have to run on fuel. Green hydrogen is the ideal fuel to take the place of today’s fossil hydrocarbons. It offers abundant, affordable, renewable and transportable clean power.
But to get there, we need truly green hydrogen energy production. Unfortunately, much of today’s hydrogen fuel is made through the gasification of coal or lignite, or through steam methane reformation. Neither process is clean. For hydrogen to be called truly green, it must come from renewable sources, with a process that produces zero emissions,. Today, green hydrogen currently accounts for less than 1 percent of all annual hydrogen production. For the sake of the planet, this must change.
GREEN HYDROGEN ENERGY REQUIREMENTS
Low-cost 24/7 electrolysis
Green hydrogen is produced by electrolysis—a process that produces hydrogen from water. The challenge is that producing large amounts of hydrogen in this way requires expensive equipment that must operate 24/7 to be economical.
Zero-carbon power for clean fuel
Truly green hydrogen energy production requires a low-cost, round-the-clock, zero-carbon source of power. PV and wind, even with batteries, can’t provide a round-the-clock source of power. 247Solar technologies offer an ideal low-cost 24/7 clean power and storage solution for producing abundant, economical and truly green hydrogen.
Solar Green Hydrogen Use Case
247Solar Plants™ are the low-cost 24/7 clean power and heat solution for producing abundant, economical and truly green hydrogen.
