Achieving high levels of renewable energy affordably is particularly challenging for off-grid mines in remote locations because intermittent PV or wind with costly batteries still require dirty, expensive diesel for backup.
OUR SOLUTION
THE 247SOLAR MICROGRID™
247Solar technologies are integrated with PV or wind plus batteries into the 247Solar Microgrid™ to provide continuous clean electricity while eliminating gensets and reducing fuel costs up to 90%.
- 247Solar Plants™ supply constantly changing loads with highly responsive baseload power. PV, wind, and batteries provide power for variable loads
- HeatStorE™ batteries store excess electricity from PV and wind as heat and convert this heat to electricity when needed for up to 20 hours. HeatStorE can also burn small amounts of fuel to produce power even when storage is depleted, for 24/7 dispatchability, eliminating gensets.
- 247Solar technologies can also provide industrial-grade heat up to 970℃(1800℉) for ore processing, steam generation, and other applications.
PATHWAY EXAMPLE
A mineral sands mining operation (high-grade silica for use in PV cells) in Queensland, Australia, transitions from 100% diesel to 24/7 carbon-free power as each genset reaches end of life.
- Requirement: Initial 1.1MW renewable power growing to 4.0MW within 3 years
- Implementation:
- Phase 1 pilot: 1 x 247Solar Plant (400kW)
- 1 x STAG-Tech Modular Wind Turbine (200kW)
- 1 x 247Solar HeatStorE battery (200kW/1.8MWh)
- PV: 0.5MW
- Phase 2 PPA: Pilot plus up to additional 10MW of clean power as gensets reach end of life
OUTCOME
- Gensets phased out
- Reduced carbon footprint of 90%; reaches 100% if/when green hydrogen is used for the remaining 10%
- Reduced cost of power up to 90%
- Reduced operating costs for power equipment up to 5
