EXAMPLE
An orange juice factory in Spain requires electricity for plant operations, steam for juice processing and hot gases for drying orange peel. Grid connected; seeking to lower electricity and heat costs and reduce carbon footprint.

  • Annual Requirement: 
    • Electricity: 25,000 MWh; Steam: 53,000 t/y (8 bar saturated); Hot gases equivalent to about 50.000 t/y of steam 
  • Implementation:
    • Pilot:  1 400kWe 247Solar Plant, modified for on-grid or off-grid operation to meet widely variable loads on-demand and facilitate load shifting to optimize electricity costs.
    • Rollout: Increase total installed capacity to 8 MW to meet full annual power and heat requirements, reduce energy costs up to 85% and earn carbon credits.
OUTCOME
  • Reduced electricity and heat costs, pilot: LCOE < 40 €/MWH
  • Reduced electricity and heat costs, rollout: < 30 €/MWH
  • Carbon footprint: carbon negative – reduces both electrical and thermal emissions
